Excerpts from Love, Hate, and Fate
He still couldn’t believe she’d left, nor could he stop replaying the disastrous conversations they’d attempted in vain.
“We need to talk,” she had said, and he felt a sense of panic he’d never felt in his life. It was only four simple words, but he had dreaded them nonetheless. “It’s now or never, Damon.” He could hear her in his head as though she were in the room with him now.
He had avoided her for weeks, unable to come to terms with the longing and intense heartache that had crippled him. He hadn’t been able to grasp how she’d known about him for all that time and still stayed with him. He didn’t want to talk because he was convinced she was going to push him out of her life.
“What do you want? What do we mean? What’s next?” she had riddled him with impossible questions.
He thought he was going to implode because he simply didn’t have any answers. He knew he wanted to be with her, but he couldn’t reconcile how she would want to be with him or how it could be possible.
